‘Tis the Season(s)

I often wander into Whole Foods and peruse the aisles of down-to-earth, good-for-you products with their wholesome ingredients. The expansive variety of ready-to-eat items on the hot bar. The mingling of the kindred tree huggers…those of us who love to put good into our bodies and do good by Mother Earth.

I always get pizza and 2 cookies. It’s kind of like when I have Mexican. Three crunchy tacos; there’s really no point in looking at the menu. But, I digress…

But did you know that there was magic happening over in the seasoning section?

2014-12-12 21.08.38

I used to have this thing with always wanting one of those gourmet seasoning sets, but I didn’t particularly care for the one-flavor-fits-all packaging. There were always one or two seasonings that I really wanted to try, but didn’t want to waste money on the ones I didn’t think I’d want. Randomly, I found out that you can totally make your own seasoning set at Whole Foods!

2014-12-12 21.07.34

I know right!

So basically, it works like this:

1. Find a super cute container to put your seasoning into. This step is especially important if you’re giving this as a house warming gift… *hint, hint, wink, wink* And bring a mini funnel, if you have one. In retrospect, that would have been helpful…

2014-12-12 20.36.44

2. Take the containers to the counter to have them weighed. When you go to pay for the seasonings, they have to weigh the containers individually and this will ensure you don’t pay double for the container that you brought into the store. Think back to the science experiments in undergrad where you had to weigh each chemical so you didn’t mess up the whole assignment…

2014-12-12 21.00.49

3. Select your seasonings and fill your containers. The best part of being able to make your own seasoning gift set is that it can be super personalized for the lucky recipient!

2014-12-12 21.07.50

2014-12-12 21.03.09

4. Checkout! The best part of this whole deal is that you get to sample some spices without breaking your budget. I think I love that part the most 🙂

2014-12-12 21.15.08

I decided to go with Orange Chipotle, Rosemary, Aegean and Yakima Applewood, Smoked Sea Salts. ‘Tis the seasons indeed!

Dreaming of a Wine Christmas

Christmas is just a few weeks away! Even though I’m really looking forward to eating myself senseless for Thanksgiving, I couldn’t wait to share this cute and SUPER easy idea with you!

I wandered into Dollar Tree (which is usually trouble in and of itself) and came across some really cute and shiny window clings. My next thought was literally “these would be so cute on a wine glass!”

And if you knew how insanely hectic the last few months have been, you wouldn’t question why every thought currently defaults to wine…

Snowflake Wine Glasses

glasses

Supplies:

  • wine glasses
  • snowflake window clings
  • hot glue gun, E6000 or other adhesive
  • scissors

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry the glasses. You want to make sure that you start with a clean work surface. The clings come in varying sizes, so it’s easy to match them up to the size of your glass.
  2. Remove the window cling from its backing and adhere to the wine glass. It has a sticky backing and that’s great for helping to position it.
  3. Use the hot glue gun (or other adhesive) to attach the main branches to the glass. This step is important because the clings are made to adhere to a flat surface and the glass is round. Unless you’ve found some weirdly amazing square glasses that have been hidden from me…

glass3

4.  For the points that are still sticking out from the glass, use your scissors to trim a sliver out so that              the branch of the snowflake will lay flat against the glass. Glue into place.

glass4

It’s seriously that simple! Just a few steps and you have beautiful holiday glassware to use at all of your parties!

glass5

Just add a bottle of your favorite wine and some great company and you’re all set! Remember that when cleaning, make sure to hand wash them so that all of your (not too) hard work doesn’t disentigrate in the dishwasher.

Look Ma, No Hands!

This post is not sponsored and is solely the opinion of this really excited blogger!

I used to have a conundrum in the kitchen. When I would make a cake or cupcakes, I would usually have a little batter left over and I was never really sure what to do with it. I would proceed to make some extra cupcakes and of course eat them as I went along.

That worked for a while until I had to buy bigger jeans.

I didn’t want to throw it away, so I had to figure something out…

Did you know that you can freeze batter??!

There are over 6 billion people on this planet and I can’t be the only one who didn’t know that. So yes, you can totally freeze cake batter! When I figured this out, it became a whole new adventure jsut trying to get the batter into the freezer bags. It defeats the purpose of putting batter into bags to keep from wasting it when it doesn’t actually make it into the bag…

So one day, as I harmlessly perused the interwebs for something totally unrelated, I came across this beauty:

baggy

Y’all, they make a holder that allows you to be hands-free! I might be late to the party, but I have arrived!! I used to think all the “As Seen On TV” stuff was fooey, but this thing has changed my life!

LITERALLY:

1. Set up the holder. It adjusts to the height you need to hold various bag sizes.

2. Pour your food in the baggie. Seal it. Label with the contents and date and then put it into the freezer.

The official name is the Hands-Free Baggy Rack and you can find them here and they are sooo worth the investment. Even if you don’t bake, you can use it for lots of things that need to be transferred to a bag…like prepping stuff for a crockpot meal! I’ll definitely be using some of those in the very near future 🙂

Walter Drake has some pretty nifty stuff, if I do say so myself!

Circles and Squares

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to write and I hate that. The business is taking off and while I’m incredibly grateful, it means that some things have been pushed aside.

Time management is a skill I’m still honing.

But anywho, I found this mug while party shopping last weekend and had to have it. It’s a quote mug but it resonated with me. I needed it for myself…

IMG_1053

I’ve felt boxed in for quite some time now. Feeling like I’m not living and working in my purpose and life is just too short for that.

If there is something that you know you should be doing, step out on faith and make it happen. Like my friend told me…over a year ago…sometimes you need to let go of the boat and step out onto the water. Keep your eyes on the one who has all things in His hand and it’ll be ok.

As I continue to hold onto to the railing, I’m speaking to myself as well. Don’t be boxed in by your circumstances and don’t let your fears and doubts keep you going in circles.

Shape your own life!

We’re All Going Back to School!

So, I’ve been seeing these awesome first day of school printables everywhere…

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Check this out:

bsb

See, this cutie belongs to someone over at Bombshell Bling.

Swish Printables has some free BTS signs over on her blog.

Sunny by Design designed some classic BTS goodies too.

And then Dime Party Diva goes and makes these amazing First Day of School chalkboard posters!

But I’m a little jealous. I don’t have any kids to dress up and give one of these signs to. My mom wasn’t crafty like that when I was growing up.

No pictures on the first day of school. Just a hug and the repeated command to keep my brothers out of trouble.

Might I add, that was an impossible mission, but nevertheless…

So as I sat in my office (that I’ve been in the entire summer) I thought, ya know…I want one of those signs.

school

Stop judging me.

Everyone gets to enjoy their first day of school and I’ve had SO many of them…

school1

Yes, I have been here for 9 years! My friend was taking these pictures of me and cracking up laughing. But you have to join in and have fun while you can. So on August 25th, I will celebrate my 9th First Day of College!

Then I made some more because I figured I probably wasn’t the only person coveting these milestone signs…

So, for all you educators out there, I present the Educator’s First Days of School!

3rd

Head over and download the file. It has a sign for every year and if you’re feeling a little randy, give some to your teacher friends and make them join in on the laughs.

And if you’re making a career out of teaching, feel free to laminate the printable so that you can update it every year!

The artwork isn’t my original creation, but the funny is, so please keep these for personal use only 🙂

Have a wonderful school year and Make It Awesome!

Like Molasses

tired

I’m tired.

I love my little business and what I get to do, but I am worn out. I’ve been missing out on posting on the Motivational Monday series…not out of angst or frustration but just because I’m tired, and quite frankly, have enjoyed the “quiet.” I know many people in the blogosphere don’t know me, but I work a full-time job, (was) teach(ing) taekwondo part-time, am a multiple-ministry leader’s wife, and have this little gig.

I tell people all of the time that when things get hard/frustrating/dissatisfying, that it might be time for a change. That a breakthrough is coming. I feel like my feet are stuck in a cold pot of molasses. I know a small part of my conundrum is being afraid to step out on faith and take a leap into the next phase of my life. We’re working toward making that happen but for all of my frustration, I’m still afraid of change.

With all of that going through my mind, I wanted to take a moment to encourage you (and myself) and ask that we remember these things:

Life is too short to be unhappy.

Life is too short to not make a difference in the lives of others.

Life is too short to hold grudges against people.

Life is too short to be angry about things that you’re unable or unwilling to change.

I looked up some verses to encourage myself when I want to give up and I hope that they encourage you as well. There is a printable at the end of the post and I will certainly print it out to hang in my office. Whatever you’re going through, stay encouraged.

Wash the molasses off and take some steps forward.

Trouble really doesn’t last always.

All American Summer

This is a sponsored post for Mirassou Winery

There are so many opportunities and reasons to celebrate the military and the freedoms that we are able to enjoy are due entirely to their service and the sacrifices they make. With Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Independence Day, and Patriot Day on the calendar, we celebrate and honor them throughout the summer. I recently teamed up with Mirassou Winery to throw a small gathering to welcome summer, to honor our military service members and to acknowledge that it’s a lot more than just a day off work. table16 For the decor of the table, I framed printables that I found at HMH Designs…they were kind enough to offer them for personal use here. table23

table20

table6 Being from the South, cookouts are a big part of our summers and Memphis is the BBQ capital of the world! For our Memorial Day party, we chose the theme “Welcome to an All-American Summer” to celebrate the day with our family and friends. When hosting a cookout, the meat is the star! Our table consisted of side dishes and desserts to go with the main items. On the table: hot dogs, cole slaw, pita chips and hummus, s’mores, pasta, fruit trifle, strawberry cupcakes, and cheesecake; there was chicken, steak, bratwurst, and corn off the grills. table22

table7 In addition to the cookout, we hosted a small wine tasting featuring wines from Mirassou Winery. Everyone knows there’s nothing better than enjoying a glass of wine in the evening to end a blistering summer day! wine1 To do the tasting, we had a selection of four wines and tasting mats with pairing instructions, which make the whole process super easy! On the mats were food suggestions and taste profiles of each of the wines. Head over to their Facebook page to download your own wine tasting kit! wine7

wine30 To make the table runner, I printed out the flag with all of the states which I found at Southern Charm and the star I found by Pixabella. I simply printed out the quantity I needed and strung them together. In addition to the wine, we had bottle openers, wine glass charms, beads and the mats themselves as party favors for the guests. My favorite part of the package was the “Bright Tips for Home Entertaining” guide…I couldn’t wait to dive into the book! wine16 I love their recipe cards because Mirassou offers recipes that pair with their wines, as well as, recipes that use their wine as an ingredient…it’s a win-win! Find the recipes here. taste20

wine5 Whether you’re hosting a gathering for friends this summer or in honor of our national heroes, fire up the grill and grab some bottles of Mirassou and have the best summer yet!

Easy DIY Washi Tape Frame

The hubby and I are attending SoFabCon14 this weekend and we have these challenges that we have to complete to be entered for a chance to win some pretty amazing prizes.

I’m learning so much but I really hope I win the prize pack!

So I just wanted to take a moment to share this DIY craft with you…a 1 min washi tape picture frame!

20140510-124124.jpg

Like, seriously one minute…

We entered the crafts room and I was like oooh glitter! Oooh ModPodge! Oooh washi tape! I was sold when I saw purple chevron washi tape.

Follow these simple steps to make your customizable frame:

1. Start with a clean, simple frame. I had a wooden one available. The amazingly encouraging words were supplied by the conference 🙂

20140510-124748.jpg

2. Select your washi tape. This step is the best! You can pick any style tape that you want…to match any theme or decor 🙂

3. Place 4 strips of tape along each length of the frame. Done and done!

Just to take it a little further, I embellished mine with paper flowers and buttons.

20140510-125724.jpg

These are SO simple and easy to do! You can make them to fit ANY theme!! Have fun and make it awesome!
